Hi there

I’m writing to put myself forward for the role of Touring and Adventure-Team Leader. My name is Owen Gregory, and I’ve worked in the travel industry now for coming up to 9 years.
Having done some research and read through the details of the role, I believe my passion and experience align perfectly with Barrhead Travel and this position; I worked for STA Travel for 6 and a half years, where adventure tours were the bread and butter product, and I’ve enjoyed many of these myself in different areas of the world!

At STA, I was a top-selling consultant in my region, and then Assistant Manager in Cambridge and Norwich before taking on the role of Store Manager in Manchester, where we finished as top store in my first full month. Since STA collapsed, I’ve kept myself in the industry, waiting to find the right position to move forward with. I was at Kuoni in Norwich, where I was initially on maternity cover with a program to get my own store after. I realised this was not a natural fit in terms of travel style, with my heart more in experiencing the destination rather than the resort, so took up a role as Australia and New Zealand Specialist with Freedom Destinations in Hertford. I enjoy working here, though there is no real career progression or the opportunity to mentor others which I really feel I need.

I’ve been lucky enough to travel all over the world, but my favourite destinations would be Australia, partly for sentimental reasons as I lived there for a year and have a lot of fond memories, and also because of the sheer variety of landscape, wildlife and food-as well of course as the superior weather!
I also loved my time in south west Africa, having been on a group tour there, where in the space of two weeks I boated along the Okavango Delta, stayed with bushmen in the Kalahari Desert, and had a close encounter with a lion in Botswana!
With my experience and success in the industry, as well as passion for travel and exploration, I’d love to be able to bring this to the table with Barrhead. My career aspirations are to pick up where I left off at STA in terms of progression, and to continue growing professionally. I truly love motivating and coaching people and am driven to be able to do that (something my current job does not cater for), and enjoy the challenge of adapting to different people to get the best results.
I’m currently based in Hertford so am able to work remotely, but also willing to relocate, having done this before.
